The latest Netflix ISP Speed Index for January offers insights into which internet providers deliver optimal streaming quality during peak hours worldwide.

In the United States, cable providers experienced shifts in rankings; Bright House dropped to ninth place with an average speed of 3.53 Mbps, while Time Warner Cable fell to tenth at 3.39 Mbps. Conversely, both Suddenlink and AT&T U-verse improved their standings, climbing two spots to seventh and eighth respectively. Suddenlink's speeds increased from 3.52 Mbps to 3.62 Mbps, and AT&T U-verse rose from 3.48 Mbps to 3.59 Mbps.

Across the Atlantic, in Germany, Unitymedia Kabel, which had been the top performer since launching in that market, saw a decline to eighth place with an average speed of 3.18 Mbps. This marks a decrease from December’s 3.79 Mbps and a significant drop from August’s peak of 4.17 Mbps.

In South America, Ecuador’s Etapa network made notable gains, moving from last place to fourth, achieving an average speed of 1.84 Mbps—an increase from 1.51 Mbps in the previous month and nearly doubling its November speed of 0.96 Mbps.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index focuses specifically on prime-time Netflix streaming performance per provider, serving as an indicator of user experience quality—better speeds generally lead to clearer picture quality, faster startup times, and fewer buffering issues.
